Alessandra , I forgot to tell you , 2 days after I ( finaly) contacted you , Zbyszek's book arrived ! I almost forgot about it because it was ordered few weeks ago . You can just imagine how I felt ! Of course I burst into tears , my joy was immense . I've started reading it and it is like you say , almost like listening to him speak although I really only heard him speak in Polish . But the language , his style is so accessible and beautiful ! I can just burst with pride ! Thank you again , dear Alessandra . I'm sure he is smailing at you right now ......

Hi Alessandra--I came here from one of your messages at Stitcher's Guild. I enjoyed your review of this issue of Astounding. When it was published, my father was younger than my son is now and it is easy to see many of the themes that shaped his life in the subjects and style you describe here. He was a sci-fi and fantasy fan for most of his life (would be still if dementia hadn't broken his brain) and there was always that mix of can-do and belief in technology for a better future, combined with the dark underlying pessimism about how well people handle technology and change. Plus ça change and all that!

Alessandra! I can't believe I'm doing this ! I'm sure you've got more important things to do than read this . I'm a bit sick , ( cold) so I'm allowed to stay in bed while my sister looks after things. We , both widows now , live together. My husband Marian who was also in the same class woud have been so happy to have " found" Zbyszek . They used to go on bicycle trips together . Alessandra , I have to tell you again how happy you've made us! One of us lives in Chicago but he is not familiar with internet. Let me know if you would like to meet him . He was devastated when he realized that he had a chance to see Zbyszek and didn't . He's been there since the late 80 s

You see , I really wanted to keep talking and opportunity revealed itself by this new space . Before I keep goingI would like to appologize for any mistakes I make , English being my second language . Zbyszek was a great guy! He was crazy about jazz . He took me to this jamsession and he was absolutely messmerized , you couldn't talk to him. One thing I noticed about him. He was very appreciative if a girl he took out took extra care with her appearance . I remember I just made myself a new dress and found these great shoes and he was very happy. But we were just buddies and he went with other girls usually the whole bunch of us went out together . It was great! YOUTH!!!

I can't believe my luck! You have replied! I know this is your blog and I love your work but I am a newcomer to this technology ( my family introduced me to it by giving me this IPad few days before YOU posted this " remembrance" ) I have only found it recently! One morning I got up and reached for my IPad , as usual ( I like to check my mail ) and it just hit me! Why don't I try and find Zbyszek trough Google which has been my best teacher and information centre for months now . And I have been supremly awarded........by you dear Alessandra !!! I immediately let all my friends know . We were saddened that he had died but his was a good life! Love. Ela

Dear Alessandra! You have no idea how happy you have made me and others by posting this tribute to Zbyszek . We were together at art school in Krakow , but years down the track we lost contact . I ended up in Australia and when I asked about Zbyszek when finally visiting Krakow after 50 years nobody knew what happed to him apart from him migrating to America with his mother . They thought he was killed in Vietnam . So , now you know how wonderful it was you telling the world these beautiful things about him . We are so , so proud to have known him and forever grateful to you Alessandra . By the way , yours is a beautiful name.........Ela.......
