Exaltations

Below a white vortex of small disks stand four people, a Germanic knight with Asian-style hair knot, an aged Chinese woman in scholars' robes, a caucasian man in leather jacket with a satchel, and a mournful-looking woman in a red gown wrapped tightly around her. Their bodies flatten into mosaics down the panel, their Byzantine feet resting on a pattern of overlapping bulls-eyes made of pavement stones.

"Exaltations" is an egg tempera painting on panel.

The novel is a fantasy about four people trapped in stories and how they join forces to work their way free.
