Musical Interlude

Three women invariations of a black dress and a red and black bodice dance in an ambiguous space with an ouroborous, not quite an infinity symbol, in the air above them

The Charites, or Graces, are three gods of grace, joy, beauty, adornment, and festivity.

There's a bit of a nod to Botticelli's "Primavera", as well as some esoteric symbolism. Butterflies have been a symbol of human souls since at least the ancient Greeks, and the dragon above refers to time and magic and flowing currents and wisdom.

This painting is a part of "Second Sights: The Art of Presence", an ongoing project.

"Second Sights" takes inspiration from the classical Greek gods to spur thought and expand our culture's ideas of human beauty and clothing.

The project blends panel painting, clothing design and construction, and textile painting. Each god addressed in the "Second Sights" project has a painting and an outfit, sometimes more than one.

The Graces are shown literally wearing the garments which were created for this aspect of "Second Sights".
