In a morass of blurred, fernlike foliage, a child in a simple tunic rides a shaggy centaur curled around a red banner that fades into nothing, a translucent blue woman in webby drapery watching them pass, and the sky is nothing but an explosion of blue birds.

This may be the oldest painting on this site. It's a very small piece.

I was playing with the possibilities of texture in egg tempera, which is normally considered an unyielding and difficult medium to blend and soften.

I also wanted to play with something which was almost but not quite heraldic and more suggestive than delineated.
