"Belladonna" is an egg tempera painting on panel.

A woman in a blue dress, roughly the style of 1810 or so, her back to us, pulls back a rich red curtain to see two apparitions, ghostly grey ladies wearing fashionable dresses of the 1840s, but attenuated and stretched out past human possibility, leaning on the railing of a balcony overlooking an eerily moonlit landscape.

The two unearthly ladies are based on portraits by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.
